The first spec question on almost every wireless charger quote is 10W or 15W. The honest answer depends on whose phones will sit on the pad. Here is how the numbers work in practice.
What the phones actually draw
- iPhone on a standard Qi pad: up to 7.5W, regardless of whether the pad is rated 10W or 15W. Apple only allows 15W on MagSafe-certified magnetic chargers.
- Samsung Galaxy and most Android flagships: 10W to 15W on a compatible pad, with 15W requiring a 9V/2A or PD adapter.
- Earbuds and watches: 2W to 5W. The pad rating is irrelevant.
Cost difference
The 15W version of a bamboo pad uses a higher-rated coil and controller and usually a larger heat spreader. On a 1,000-unit order the difference is small per unit, but a 15W pad also needs an 18W adapter in the box to reach its rating; shipping a 15W pad with a 5V/2A adapter is the most common way promotional chargers disappoint recipients.
Which to order
- Mixed corporate audience: 15W with a PD or QC adapter included. It covers every phone, and "15W fast charging" prints well on the box.
- iPhone-heavy audience (agencies, executives): 10W is enough on a pad; if you want true 15W for iPhone, choose a magnetic MagSafe-compatible model such as our bamboo MagSafe power banks.
- Budget giveaways: 10W without adapter, stated clearly on the insert card.
Checklist for the quote
- Output: 5W / 7.5W / 10W / 15W auto-negotiated.
- Input: USB-C, and whether an adapter is included.
- Foreign object detection and over-temperature protection.
- Bamboo top plate thickness (3 to 4 mm keeps the coil in spec).
- Qi compliance and CE, FCC, RoHS reports.
